Using the right web browser is essential for keeping your information safe online and keeping your data secure from third parties. Even if you are using the best laptop or PC on the market and have an excellent firewall, VPN and anti-virus in place, the browser you use may slow down your access and potentially share your information and logins with third parties.
With data protection and cybersecurity always at the forefront of our minds, we’ve worked our way through, what we believe, are the most secure and fastest performing web browsers available.
Many IT specialists acclaim Mozilla Firefox as being great for all-round privacy and security. The latest iteration of Firefox, Firefox Quantum provides excellent browser speeds, performing on a par with Google Chrome.
More importantly, Firefox is excellent when it comes to privacy and security. Mozilla is a not-for-profit company, so they have don’t have the same impetus to sell your data to third parties. Recent add-ons have also enabled password-free logins and automatic ad-blockers.
Google Chrome was recently named the most secure web browser for the second year in a row at Pwn2Own hacking event. During both events, the browser remained unhacked while its competitors experienced at least one breach each.
While Google owns it and as such can track users’ activities and search histories to target paid for advertising, the browser offers two blacklists which warn users if they are attempting to visit a potentially malicious website.
This browser is relatively underused but does offer several interesting inbuilt security features. The most helpful feature is its built-in Virtual Private Network (VPN). This feature works by encrypting the browser’s internet connection, thereby shielding the user’s browsing from external prying.
Opera also has fraud and malware protection and notifies users of potentially malicious websites.
